Why Kennedy Park is a good place to start

Kennedy Park, together with Parque Central next to it, is the middle of Miraflores. A lot of the district’s hotels and guesthouses are within a few blocks, the cafés around it are where people meet, and it is the landmark every taxi driver knows. The walk from Kennedy Park to Luchito’s

About 600 to 700 metres, eight to ten minutes at an easy pace, on flat, busy streets the whole way.

1. From the park, head to Avenida José Larco, the shopping avenue that runs from the park toward the sea.
2. Walk down Larco toward the ocean.
3. At Avenida Alfredo Benavides, cross at the lights. The Atlantic City casino is on the far left corner.
4. Just past Benavides, turn left onto Calle Bolívar, the short street that runs behind the casino.
5. Number 164 is the SAHA rooftop entrance. The class is on the third-floor terrace.

Be there ten minutes before the start: 1:50 pm for the 2:00 pm class and 5:50 pm for the 6:00 pm class. Luchito’s second information office, at Av. José Larco 799, is on the same route, close to the turn onto Calle Bolívar.

Market-tour classes that meet near the park

Several tour companies sell market-and-cooking classes on booking platforms that use Kennedy Park or a hotel nearby as the meeting point, then walk or ride to Surquillo Market and cook in a kitchen close by. Meeting points change between listings, so check the voucher rather than assuming the park.

Walking in Miraflores: practical notes

• Central Miraflores is flat and busy, and it is one of the easiest parts of Lima to get around on foot.

• Use the usual city sense: keep your phone out of sight when you are not using it, and stick to the main avenues after dark.
