Luchito's vs Other Lima Cooking Schools: A Fair Comparison

Updated Date:

Author: Luchito’s Cooking Class Editorial Team

Quick Summary: Luchito’s is the shortest and lowest-priced of the three dedicated schools compared here: US$59 for causa, ceviche and a pisco sour in about two and a half hours on a Miraflores rooftop, with evening, market and private versions. SkyKitchen (from US$78, four dishes, about three hours) suits people who want a longer menu, a fruit tasting or a class in German. Urban Kitchen suits private groups who want a premium chef-led session. Market-tour classes on booking platforms and restaurant demo classes fill the gaps between them. This guide is written by Luchito’s, so it sticks to each school’s published details.

A note on who is writing this

This guide is published by Luchito’s Cooking Class, so read it knowing that. To keep it fair, every detail about another school comes from that school’s own website, its booking listings or published profiles, and the guide says plainly where another option is the better pick.

Luchito’s Cooking Class

Luchito’s teaches on the open-air third-floor terrace of SAHA in central Miraflores, eight to ten minutes on foot from Kennedy Park. There are four formats:

  • Ultimate Peruvian Cooking Class: 2:00 pm, US$59. Causa limeña, ceviche and a pisco sour.
  • Cooking Class and Local Market: hotel pickup between 12:00 and 12:30 pm, US$89. The same menu after a visit to Surquillo Market.
  • Taste of Lima: Lomo Saltado Cooking and Cocktail Experience: 6:00 pm, US$99. Papa a la huancaína and lomo saltado, with a pisco sour and a chilcano.
  • Unique Private Class: 2:00 pm, US$149 per person, your group only.

Every class is hands-on, taught in English and Spanish, and ends with a sit-down meal of what you cooked. Aprons, ingredients and drinks are included, you leave with the recipes, and vegetarian and vegan swaps are published (causa with avocado instead of chicken, and a mushroom ceviche). Groups of four or more get 20% off with a published code, bookings made directly can be cancelled for a full refund up to 6:00 pm the day before, and you can book in person at two information centers in Miraflores. Luchito’s displays a Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best 2026 award.

Where Luchito’s is the better pick

  • You want a full hands-on class that fits in an afternoon, at the lowest price of the three schools here.
  • You want an evening class, with the wok and two cocktails.
  • You want a market visit with hotel pickup included.
  • You are a group of four or more and want the discount, or you want to book face to face.

Where it is not

  • You want four dishes or a dessert. Luchito’s cooks two dishes and a cocktail.
  • You want a long fruit tasting as part of the class.
  • You need a class in a language other than English or Spanish.

SkyKitchen

SkyKitchen teaches on a rooftop terrace in Miraflores, at Calle Enrique Palacios 470, which its site describes as open-air but sheltered. A class runs about three hours and covers four dishes. Its published menus include a Peruvian Classics meal (causa, ceviche, lomo saltado and picarones), a Peruvian Standard meal (papa a la huancaína, ceviche, ají de gallina and pastel de choclo), and Andean and seafood menus. Classes are listed at US$78, US$98 with a tasting of more than 35 Peruvian fruits, and US$113 with a market tour added. It teaches in English, Spanish and German.

Better for: a longer menu with a dessert, the fruit tasting, an Andean or seafood focus, or a class in German. Trade-offs: a higher price than Luchito’s afternoon class, a longer session, and the market tour is an add-on rather than built in.

Urban Kitchen

Urban Kitchen was founded by Lima chef Ignacio Barrios, who trained at Le Cordon Bleu in London and cooked at Wild Honey in London and at Astrid y Gastón in Madrid before returning to Peru. Its workshops start with a market visit led by the chef, then move to the school’s kitchen, where you make a chilcano and cook four dishes. The format is built around private groups, and its private market-and-class package is listed on booking platforms from about US$372 per person, including lunch and a cookbook. Published sources disagree on its current address, so confirm the location when you book.

Better for: private groups, special occasions and company events with a premium budget who want a chef-led session. Trade-offs: by far the highest price here, and less suited to a solo traveller looking to join a shared class.

Market-tour classes sold on booking platforms

A number of tour companies sell market-and-cooking classes on booking platforms. Most visit Surquillo Market and then cook in a kitchen nearby, run about four hours, and list at roughly US$68 to US$80 per person. Quality varies by operator, so check the group size (some listings allow up to 14 people), the language, the meeting point, and whether you sit down to a full meal at the end. Luchito’s own market tour and cooking class is the same idea with hotel pickup included.

Restaurant demo classes and hotel classes

Some restaurants, including one in Barranco listed at around US$84 for a two-hour session with lunch, run demonstration classes: a chef cooks, you watch, and then you eat. They suit people who would rather not cook, or who want to eat at a particular restaurant. Some upscale Miraflores hotels, such as the Belmond Miraflores Park, also offer cooking classes, with formats and prices set by the hotel. If you want to cook with your own hands, check that the listing says hands-on.

Home cooking with a local family

Private classes in a family home, often with pickup, are listed at roughly US$48 to US$85 per person. They can be the most personal option, and also the most variable, since everything depends on the host. Read recent reviews closely. If what you want is a private session in a set venue, Luchito’s private class is the comparison, and our guide to a cooking class versus a private chef at home covers the other route.

How to compare any Lima cooking class before you book

  1. Hands-on or demonstration? The listing should say which.
  2. How many dishes, and is there a full meal at the end? Our guide to eating what you cook explains why this matters.
  3. Group size. Ask for the maximum, not the average.
  4. Language. Check the class is taught in yours, not just translated.
  5. Where it is. A class you can walk to is a different afternoon from one across the city. See getting to a Miraflores cooking class.
  6. What is included: drinks, recipes, pickup and any market tastings.
  7. Cancellation terms, which differ between booking direct and booking through a platform. Our guide to cancellation and refunds covers Luchito’s.
  8. Recent reviews on Tripadvisor and Google, read for the last few months rather than the overall score.

Limitations

This guide is published by Luchito’s Cooking Class, which is one of the options compared. Details for other schools come from their own websites, booking-platform listings and published profiles in October 2026; prices, menus, addresses and formats change, and platform prices vary by date, currency and group size, so confirm everything with the provider before booking. Price ranges for platform-listed classes are examples, not a complete survey of the market. Luchito’s is not affiliated with the other schools named here.
